Topping DX3 Pro is a highly advanced desktop multitasker. It is a USB DAC, Bluetooth receiver, headphone amplifier and preamplifier. All enclosed in a stylish anodized aluminum case fitted with USB, coaxial and optical inputs, and RCA and 3.5mm jack outputs.
Topping DX3 Pro LDAC boasts latest wireless tech inside. Qualcomm CSR8675 chip responsible for DX3 Pro’s wireless transmission is a premium tier single-chip solution delivering high quality wireless audio performance. Bluetooth v.5.0 supports aptX, aptX HD, Active Noise Cancellation and Qualcomm TrueWireless stereo as well as aptX LL, LDAC, MP3, AAC and SBC codecs and protocols. CSR8675 supports sampling rates up to 192kHz/24bit. These specs guarantee highest quality wireless audio playback currently available on the market. DX3 Pro’s design doesn’t use CR8675s internal DAC, the signal is directly transmitted to the two Asahi Kasei Microdevices AK4493 DAC chips that are much more efficient.
USB inputs in DX3 Pro are handled by a quality second generation XMOS XU208 USB interface chip that is a representative of the xCORE-200 Series by XMOS and is a 32-bit mulitcore micro-controller characterized by its low latency and timing determinism. Unlike conventional micro-controllers, XU208 is capable of executing multiple real-time tasks simultaneously and communicate between tasks using a high speed network. XU208 chip supports sampling rates of up to 32bit 768kHz in PCM and up to DSD512 Native. DX3 Pro also has customized and optimized Thesycon drivers for Windows (Windows 7 and above) that offers improved native DSD support (from DSD64 to DSD512).
Two’s better than one
At the heart of DX3 Pro is its digital-to-analog conversion stage. It uses two AKM AK4493EQ chips, one per channel, allowing for better separation, which greatly contributes to the audio performance of the device and also allows it to support high sampling rates.
The AKM AK4493EQ is a new generation Premium 32-bit 2ch DAC with VELVET SOUNDTM technology, achieving industry’s leading level low distortion characteristics. The newly adopted OSR-Doubler technology establishes wide signal band, low power consumption and low distortion characteristics. Moreover, the AK4493 has six types of 32-bit digital filters, realizing simple and flexible sound tuning in a wide range of applications. Coaxial and optical inputs of DX3 Pro use an excellent AKM AK4118 S/PDIF receiver chip to make sure they perform to their full potential. AK4118 is a digital audio transceiver. It is the lowest jitter S/PDIF receiver currently on the market and allows for sampling rates of 24bit 192kHz to be achieved. The AK4118 can automatically detect a Non-PCM bit stream.
Headphone amplification stage in DX3 Pro is based on a Texas Instruments TPA6120A2 chip. The TPA6120’s current-feedback AB amplifier architecture delivers high bandwidth, extremely low noise, and up to 128dB of dynamic range. Three key features make current-feedback amplifiers outstanding for audio. The first feature is the high slew rate that prevents odd order distortion anomalies. The second feature is current-on-demand at the output that enables the amplifier to respond quickly and linearly when necessary without risk of output distortion. When large amounts of output power are suddenly needed, the amplifier can respond extremely quickly without raising the noise floor of the system and degrading the signal-to-noise ratio. The third feature is the gain-independent frequency response that allows the full bandwidth of the amplifier to be used over a wide range of gain settings. It is capable of delivering up to 700mW per channel (@ 32ohm), making it capable of driving a vast majority of headphones. On top of that, the gain is adjustable: it can be either set to 0dB or 9dB.
